The short version. Dangers Here has no accounts and no sign-in. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal data. Your location is used on your device to warn you about nearby hazards and is never sent to us. The app shows non-personalised banner ads through Google AdMob, and it fetches hazard, map, and weather data from third-party services — those requests are described in full below.
1. Who we are
Dangers Here (“the app”) is published by Goslingstorm (“we”, “us”). The app warns travellers about location-based natural hazards such as sharks, bears, ticks, venomous fish, and volcanic activity.

2. We do not collect personal data
The app has no user accounts, no registration, no login, and no user profiles. We operate no server that receives, records, or stores information about you. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, we do not build advertising profiles, and we never sell or share personal information.
3. Location
Location access is optional. The app works fully without it — you can browse the hazard map and all hazard information with location turned off.
How location is used
- Showing hazards near you. Your position is compared, on your device, against the hazard zones stored on your device.
- Hazard alerts (background location). If you enable alerts, the app registers geofences around a limited set of hazard zones so the operating system can notify you when you enter one — including when the app is closed or not in use. This is the only reason background location is requested. The matching happens on your device; no background location is transmitted to us.
- Weather and air-quality alerts. If you use the weather features, your approximate coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo API to retrieve a forecast for your area.
Where location goes
Your precise location is stored only on your device and is used only by the app. It is not uploaded to us, not stored in any database we control, and not shared with advertisers. The single exception is the coordinate lookup sent to Open-Meteo described above, which is required to return a local forecast.
You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, or disable background alerts inside the app. Doing so stops all location use immediately.
4. Data stored on your device
The following is saved locally on your device and never leaves it, except where noted:
- Your app settings and language preference
- Hazards you have marked as favourites
- Quiz scores and progress
- A cached copy of the hazard database, so the app works offline
All of this is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage from your device settings.
5. Third-party services
The app connects to the services below. Each one necessarily receives your IP address and standard technical request information, as is the case for any internet request. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle that data.

Advertising choices
You can turn off ad banners inside the app under Settings → Show ad banners. You can also reset or delete your advertising identifier in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).
6. Notifications
The app sends local notifications for hazard-zone entry and severe-weather alerts. These are generated on your device by the app itself. We do not operate a push-notification server and cannot send you messages.
7. Children
Dangers Here is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because the app collects no personal data and requires no account, no child-specific data is ever gathered. Ads served are non-personalised.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and comparable laws you have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to its processing.
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, export, or erase on request. You can delete everything the app has stored by uninstalling it. For data held by the third parties listed in section 5, please contact them directly using the links above.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
Where we do process data, the legal basis is your consent (location, notifications, advertising identifiers) and our legitimate interest in operating and funding a free app (serving non-personalised ads, delivering map and hazard content).
9. Data retention and security
We retain no personal data, so there is no retention period to state. Data stored on your device persists until you delete the app or clear its storage. All network connections made by the app use HTTPS.
10. International transfers
The third-party services listed in section 5 may process requests on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Each provider maintains its own transfer safeguards, described in its privacy policy.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
